The Queen Launches Gin Made with Botanicals from The Gardens at Sandringham Estate

In July this year we saw the first ever brand of gin released by the Royal family, named Buckingham Palace Gin, and now the Queen has launched her very own dry gin featuring botanicals grown on her 20,000 acre Sandringham Estate in North Norfolk.

This exciting new tipple has been produced in small batches by Whatahoot distillery, at their former premises in a barn at Flitcham on the estate.

The expression is flavoured with leaves from myrtle plants grown on the estate and exotic Sharon fruit, also known as Chinese persimmon, picked from the estate’s walled garden.

A description of the limited edition gin states: ‘The Sharon Fruit is grown in the Walled Garden on a sheltered wall at the end of what was a range of glass houses, built on the winnings of the famous racehorse, Persimmon, owned by King Edward VII.

‘The foliage from myrtle plants also grown on the Estate, originated from a cutting taken from Princess Alexandra’s wedding bouquet on her marriage to Prince Albert Edward, who later became King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.’

Sandringham Celebration Gin is presented in a glass bottle featuring a beautiful design with green and gold and the Crown of the Royal Estate. It is described as ‘a full bodied gin with rich juniper tones and a lingering citrus finish’.

Less than a day after Buckingham Palace Gin was launched, sales went through the roof and it was sold out within hours. So, especially as we’re now in the run up to Christmas, we’re pretty sure that this lovely tipple will be just as popular.

We think it would make a perfect gift for a loved one this Christmas, or even as a cheeky purchase for one’s own gin collection!

Sandringham Celebration Gin (50cl, 43% ABV) is currently available to buy through the estate’s online shop by clicking here, priced at £50 with free shipping in the UK. Bottles will also be available to buy at the Sandringham gift shop, once it reopens after restrictions are lifted.
